Make It – Cost Savings For Broiler Producers Making ExPress®

Feed is one of the most significant production costs in poultry operations; therefore, focusing on the digestibility of ingredients and optimizing feed-to-gain ratios is essential for improving efficiency and fostering innovation in poultry production. By prioritizing quality feed ingredients, we can not only meet the growing demand for poultry meat but also ensure cost-effective and sustainable practices in the industry. This approach ensures that the ingredients used in poultry feed support optimal animal performance while maximizing profitability for poultry operations. The aim is to enhance productivity, reduce feed costs, and improve feed conversion.
Based on data from previous trials comparing ExPress® soymeal to solvent-extracted soybean meal in broilers, significant feed savings were estimated for producers who make their own ExPress® soymeal, due to improved feed conversion ratios (FCR) associated with the nutritional value of the soymeal. For example, producers can benefit from feed cost reductions in a baseline poultry production model in the U.S. with 690,351 broilers per year. This is because broilers fed ExPress® soymeal are more efficient using the available energy in the meal. ExPress® contains 6-8% residual oil, eliminating the need for added oil, fat, or amino acid (AV) blends. Moreover, the improved amino acid digestibility in ExPress® soymeal may allow for reduced inclusion of synthetic amino acids, leading to further cost savings.
Despite market price fluctuations, particularly in fats and oils, these savings remain consistent for producers processing their own ExPress® due to the nutritional value of ExPress® soymeal reflected in the improved bird performance. Broilers fed ExPress® soymeal show notable performance benefits, including a 4.25% increase in final body weight/bird and reaching market weight 1.9 days earlier. Additionally, the feed conversion ratio (FCR) improves by 7 points (from 1.59 to 1.52 FCR), reflecting a 4.4% improvement over a 42-day period with respect to solvent-extracted soybean meal. This improved feed efficiency translates to an approximate 4.6% reduction in overall feed cost and feed cost/bird for a producer under the mentioned baseline scenario, assuming the same market price for both types of soymeal.
Summary of Soymeal Benefits for Broiler Producers Making Their Own ExPress®
Broiler producers who make their own soymeal, such as ExPress®, can achieve significant feed cost savings, both in total feed costs and cost per bird. These savings are crucial for maintaining profitability. The benefits stem from the improved feed conversion ratio and enhanced body weight gain. ExPress® soymeal has high nutritional value, maximizing the digestibility of amino acids and providing more metabolizable energy. This often reduces or even eliminates the need for additional oils and fats, such as AV blends and vegetable oils, contributing to further cost reductions and improving feed efficiency.
By continuing to focus on the quality of feed ingredients like soymeal, producers can reduce costs and improve overall production efficiency, contributing to the sustainable growth of the broiler industry.
